The effectiveness of Using Music on the Web

I am a great fan of using music within the classroom. Music has the ability to lift you up when your feeling down, and motivate you to do things you may not do otherwise. Many professional sports men and women listen to music before a big game to get them focused. Music provides a background noise that can drown out distractions or daydreaming. Inside the classroom I would use it as a focusing tool and relate it to the content. It can also depend on what music you play for the outcome your trying to achieve. Slow and soft music can be played for study time, while in other cases you may play a song in the background on a PowerPoint presentation that suits the mood.

I believe it is possible to create a sought of "walled garden" with music, if used correctly. A walled garden refers to an Internet enclosure where what happens within it is walled out from other intruders. It can refer to television or mobile phone deals that only offer certain deals when you are in a certain plan. In the sense that I plan to use, students are in a walled garden free from distractions. The music I play provides the background music, and makes it impossible for students to small talk over the music, so their focus is completely on the content.
